What is the best type of water to put in your iron when ironing clothes? Distilled? Tap? Etc.?

It seems my iron will sometimes leak a dot of water on the clothes which produces a water spot and then I have to put the pants right back in the wash! I have been using Distilled water. Maybe I just need a new iron...
