Why does god reveal himself to illiterates?

Joseph Smith was not illiterate. He had a fifth grade education, which I think today, would be equal to about Jr. High. He read the Bible all the time. His writing, however, was atrocious, and he readily admitted that. But, after becoming the prophet, he studied a lot, especially Hebrew.
