My total cholesterol level is 304. Help?

I apologize for the 'water cure' answer. This type of dyslipidemia is most likely genetic. There are not true normal values for lipids so much as there are goals. For someone with no health conditions the goals would be as follows. The total cholesterol does not really have a goal and is measured only so that the LDL cholesterol may be calculated (1972 Friedewald equation). The goal for LDl cholesterol is 160 mg/dL or less. The goal for triglycerides is 150 mg/dL or less. Initially the LDL should be treated and the triglycerides deferred until the LDL is brought to goal. Often the drugs used to lower LDL cholesterol will lower triglycerides to some extent as well. If the triglycerides remain above goal then a 2nd drug will be added. If I may be of further istance please let me know. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
