Knitting or crocheting - Which is easier?

I teach knitting and I believe that knitting is easier. The crochet instructor where I work believes that crocheting is easier. We have agreed that probably whichever you learn first is easier. We also agree that crocheting is faster IF you are trying to make an afghan. However, I do believe that knitting gives you more options IF you are making clothing or any other project. The one thing that is certainly easier in crocheting is to make an embellishment to add to your knitted project.
