Why does the United Kingdom have a Monarchy?

That eliminates one politician in the highest constitutional post .It is better to have a non-political person as the titular head of the state than having a politician who could have had the opportunities to be bound to oblige take sides with politicians and political parties that were responsible to elevate the person to the highest office with life long comforts and respect .
