What is a covalent bond?

It's a bond between atoms in which one or more of the electrons are shared, so that the atoms are held close together, forming a molecule. In ionic bonds, one atom steals an electron from the other (usually occurs in solution), forming ions. Ions can wander off from each other when in solution.
